Sherry Golf Jerez sits just outside the city, overlooking the sherry-producing vineyards the region is famous for, and was designed by Blake Stirling and Marco Martin of Global Golf Company in 2004. It's a modern, American-style layout with wide fairways and generous greens, built to be genuinely enjoyable for amateurs while still testing better players.
The front nine climbs into a hillside, with real changes in elevation from the very first hole, before the back nine settles into flatter ground dotted with lakes, including a memorable island-green par 3 from the 11th onward. Well-placed hazards and undulation keep things interesting without tipping into unfair, and the course has built a reputation over two decades for consistently good conditioning. Look out for the bunker on the 18th, shaped like a horse's head in tribute to Jerez's famous equestrian tradition.
Sherry Golf has hosted a genuine run of amateur and qualifying tournaments since opening, testament to a course built for serious golf as much as an enjoyable one. For a well-conditioned, genuinely varied round close to the city, this is well worth booking.
